Meeting the challenge of industrialization in Virginia [manuscript], 1941 Apr 18.

Long article prepared for press release on Friday, April 18, 1941, concerning industrialization in Virginia. Starnes (President of the Virginia Social Sciences Association) begins by addressing the historical concern with the "evils" of industrialization that have led to its slow entrance into Virginia before discussing his ideas about how the careful selection of industries coming into the state can lead to great things. He ends with a discussion of needed labor laws in Virginia including minimum wages, work hour limitations, workmen's compansation, the creation of a department of industrial relations, and vocational training in the public schools.
